Guardian Mobility

Guardian Mobility is a leading provider of GPS aircraft tracking and communication devices, with GPS asset tracking devices available for other applications such as marine and land. Guardian Mobility Corporation is based in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.

History

In 2002, Guardian Mobility opened its doors with its first product called the Sentinel, a GPS tracking device operating on the Globalstar satellite network intended for tracking ground assets such as shipping containers. This idea morphed into something new in 2003, when Guardian began working with alarm companies to equip cottages with satellite-operated alarm systems in remote locations without the need for a telephone connection.

In late 2005 Guardian shifted gears with a request from a provincial government for aircraft tracking devices with specific capabilities. This fast growing market was immediately recognized as a good fit for the Guardian Sentinel for its ability to deliver more data than just position reports. Guardian went to work and developed a new device with aircraft-specific reporting features and labeled it Skytrax. By 2006, Guardian Mobility was knee-deep in the AFF (Automated Flight Following) market and continued to develop forward-thinking products under the Skytrax umbrella to meet the market's growing needs.

Sparked by the evolution of the Skytrax line of products, Guardian changed the name of its land asset tracking device to the Tracer to be more reflective of its function, which had evolved once again. The Tracer was gaining popularity in the outdoor recreation segment since the innovative battery-powered version had been created, making the device completely portable. Around this time, Guardian Mobility began to receive orders for use of their devices to track marine assets leading to the development of the Seatrax which is tailored to meet the needs of boat operators.

In 2008 Guardian adopted the Iridium satellite network and became an official distributor for Flightcell products, namely the Flightcell DZM with voice capabilities. This full-featured aircraft-specific product drove the company further into the aircraft market where the company developed a reputation as having portable, reliable and affordable tracking devices that require little installation.

In late 2009 Guardian changed the name of its Skytrax product line to the Guardian 3, aligning its corporate brand with its line of aircraft products. In early 2010 the company released its own aircraft data communications and tracking product with text messaging and data relaying capabilities called the Guardian 7, driving the company towards aircraft communications and more robust full-featured applications.
